Press mud, also known as press cake, is the residual output after the filtration of the juice. For every 100 tonnes of sugarcane crushed, about 3 tonnes of press mud cake is left behind as by-product. Press mud contains sizable quality of micronutrients besides 20-25% of organic carbon. It prevents soil erosion, crusting and cracking, adjusts soil pH, improves drainage and promotes normal bacterial and microbial growth in the soil. It is used as both a soil re-clamant as well as a soil conditioner. Press mud is used as manure by sugarcane farmers. Almoiz provides famers with bio-fertilizers at subsidized rates and encourages them to use bio-fertilizers to retain fertility of soil.
